What would Nervi envision with computational algorithms?
Title Pier Luigi Nervi questioned the nature and physical impact of the correlation of aesthetics and technology from the viewpoint of architecture, engineering and construction, a question that remains vital for both academy and profession. This project, a collaboration of professors and students, the CMU School of Architecture, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, the Carnegie Museum of Art and practitioners of architecture, was formed to advance Nervi’s thesis by undertaking an empirical research and demonstration project to characterize the relationship between material placement, aesthetics and structural performance.
