Can natural systems influence design decision making?


Surface temperatures rise quickly on south facing red brick facade in Tucson, AZ. On a 100 degree day, shaded surfaces on the facade are 30 degrees cooler than adjacent surfaces in full sun. Another good reason to make a self-shading tile.



Project to retrofit existing masonry buildings. Input parameters are tiles size, orientation and latitude. Computational outputs are pattern and depth of surface articulation.
